Redhawk Gymnastics Named Big Brothers Big Sisters School Based Partner of the Year

Dec. 5, 2007

By Matthew C. Worthington, Gymnastics Contact

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. - The Southeast Missouri State gymnastics program was awarded the Big Brothers Big Sisters - School Based Partner of the Year earlier today. This award comes from hard work and dedication by the gymnastics team and assistant coach Brogan Evanson.

"The credit for this award goes to my students and coach Brogan," said Farden. "I know that they provide a unique opportunity for these children that is making a difference in their lives today and beyond."

Southeast gymnastics has been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri for the past four years. Each gymnast is matched up with a child (or "little") from the community that has similar interests and personalities. Coach Brogan sets up an activity each month that includes the gymnasts and their "littles". They have made gingerbread houses, thrown a Halloween party and spend time playing in the gym. On top of the group meetings, each gymnast spends some individual time with their "little" as they get to know each other on a personal level.

"I am proud of our gymnastics program and we are honored to receive such a distinguished award," Farden said.

"Brogan, you and the team do an outstanding job and I am proud to be able to work with such great people. Thank you again!" - Kristin Pender, School Based Manager- Southern Region

With the announcement, the Redhawks have been invited to receive their award at a ceremony on December 19th in St. Louis. Southeast Missouri University is proud of the efforts by the gymnastics program, as they serve the local community.
